Madhubani painting, also known as Mithila Art, originates from the Mithila region of Bihar and is characterized by intricate line drawings filled with bright, earthy colors and patterns. Traditionally created by women, men now also participate to meet growing demand. These paintings are renowned for their tribal motifs and vibrant hues, made from mineral pigments.

Historically painted on freshly plastered mud walls, Madhubani art is now also done on paper, cloth, and canvas for commercial purposes. Artists use brushes made from cotton wrapped around bamboo sticks, and colors are derived from natural sources like soot, turmeric, and indigo. The paintings feature figures from nature and mythology, with themes including Hindu deities, court scenes, and social events. Floral, animal, and geometric designs fill any gaps in the artwork. The tradition is passed down through generations, maintaining its unique style.

The artists exhibiting are from the Darbhanga region, Bihar.
