Ali Guli Mane - Large
The History
Ali Guli Mane is a traditional mancala board game. Mancala games are a family of 2-player games played with stones/shells/seeds, etc. Crafted for both play and presence, the Ali Guli Mane board is a striking, large-format interpretation of a timeless South Indian game. Handcrafted in teak wood by skilled rural artisans from Channapatna, each piece reflects durability, precision, and the warmth of traditional craftsmanship. Simple to learn yet deeply strategic, the game encourages concentration, counting skills, and forward thinking, making it an engaging experience for both children and adults.
Other names - Pallanguzhi, Vamana Guntalu
Gameplay
Played between two players, the game board features 14 pits. It is played using small shells, seeds, or stones placed in carved pits on a wooden board. You can place 5, 7 or 9 shells in each pit. Players take turns picking up and distributing the pieces one by one across the board in an anti-clockwise motion. The goal is to capture the maximum number of shells.
