This scene depicts the writing of the Epic Mahabharata – Lord Ganesha & Sage Vyasa collaborate on this joint project, Vyasa being he narrator and Ganesha the script writer. Once when Ved Vyasa was praying and meditating in the Himalayas, he had a vision of Lord Brahma, the creator of the world. Lord Brahma advised Ved Vyasa to write the Mahabharata, as he had seen it happen in front of his eyes and he was in fact the best person to write down this epic. Sage Ved Vyasa took the help of Lord Ganesha to write the story as he narrated. Hence they were able to complete writing the Epic in a short duration of 3 years.

Side note: Only Lord Ganesha had the ambidextrous ability to write with both his hands, hence he wrote as fast as Sage Vyasa dictated
